Mongoose Status 3.0 Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike
We really enjoyed doing this mountain bike review. The packaging was very good and in good shape on arrival. The bike itself was easy to assemble (what little assembly there was). We had to attach the front tire, seat, handlebars, and pedals. Everything else was assembled. That said the instructions that you get with this bike do not help that much.
Looking for bikes on line? This bike rates alongside the best mountain bikes. The dual suspension soaks up just about everything , the disc brakes are better than average, and the gearing is much better than I thought. I did jump some curves, hit some dips and rough areas on the road, and the bike handled well. The dual suspension was a lifesaver on some the trails we hit, I tend to like it better than the hard tails (non-rear suspension bikes) I’ve ridden. The front fork has an adjustment to customize to your riding style-pretty cool!
A few of the down sides are the front reflector only fits on the handle bars and looks a litle strange, and there is no pre-made holes for a water bottle as the frame is a odd shape its going to be difficult to attach one.You may wish to get a better seat, or a gel-pack for this one, but that’s often the case for this class of bike.
The Mongoose Status 3.0 26-inch dual-suspension mountain bike has everything you need for trail riding. The bike features a full suspension frame maximizing comfort and performance, along with an SR suspension fork designed to smooth out the bumps and increase your control. Meanwhile 24-speed Shimano trigger shifters make it a breeze to change gears while on the move. Front and rear disc brakes provide great braking power in any conditions.
Here are a couple of comments from another mountain bike review; “One of the best purchases I’ve made in some time. I’m 6’3″, 250, and was a little worried about the suspension bottoming out. Not even close. I’ve ridden several mountain bikes and found that a good, durable, man-sized frame wasn’t all that easy to find. Ordering it online was a little risky, but paid off.”
” It is a great looking bike. It is a sweet ride too and worth the money.”
This bike is quite heavy and is not recommended if you are slight and perhaps a little frail. This is a very good bike and a superb value! Buy this at Amazon.com and save yourself a couple of hundred dollars. If we price all these parts on this bike separately you can’t build your own for less than $750. We adjudged this mountain bike to be the best mountain bike in its class.

Schwinn Rocket Comp Adult Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike
Our demo fro this mountain bike review was super easy to put together and we could see immediately that it is a high quality mountain bike with high end parts.
This bike looks diferent, and the pivot point makes it very comfortable. This bike absorbs a lot of shock from the road and handles the bumps well. we liked the very strong 7005 aluminum frame with 5 inches of travel rear suspension with 120 mm front shock.
Reviewers have picked up a few problems with the peddle arms being loose.
We suggest taking the crank bolt’s off, clean the threads with alcohol and lock-tight the bolt’s when the bike arrives.
The only downside to this bike is that its quite heavy but but when you consider it has 120mm (5 inches) of travel it seems a little bit easier to over look the weight. I think it weighs around 34 pounds. Names like Specialized and Gary Fisher may sell a similar bike that weighs around 24-28 lbs with similar components but will cost you 2 to 3 times more.
Here is a short video presentation;
Here are a few resources from Amazon.com from their mountain bike review; “Have owned this bike for over 3 months and ride it 4 or 5 times a week with no problems. Bicycles of this quality in other makes start at about $1400 so I am very glad I found this deal on the Internet.”
“I love to use the bike for light downhill riding at the Sundance resort in Utah, and short cross country trips up on the Bonneville Shoreline trail. To add to my love for this bike is the Geometry. The bike does not bob like other full suspension bikes, which is important for a more enjoyable uphill riding experience when you need to throw your weight into your pedaling.”
Comfortable and responsive, the Schwinn Rocket Comp adult dual-suspension mountain bike is ideal for trail riding.
Here is one more comment from another mountain bike review; “For the quality components that this bike has: 7005 aluminum frame, Hayes Disc brakes, Fox Vanilla rear suspension, Manitou Axel comp 120mm, Shimano LX and Acera, and the truvative cranks, the price cannot be beat!”

What To look For When Buying Your Mountain Bike
Choosing a mountain bike can be a bit frustrating as well as time consuming. If you have made a decision to become involved with the sport and purchase a mountain bike then here are a few pointers before you buy.
Set Your Budget
Figure out what your price range is and how much you are prepared to pay. Stay clear of no name brand products from mass merchant stores such as Wal-Mart.You will find one of the best range of top branded mountain bikes on line or at a specialist bike shop. With mountain bikes as with most things you get what you pay for. If you choose to go too low-priced you may become frustrated with your mountain bike and you will not stay long in the sport.
Style Must Fit Your Purpose.
Mountain bikes are designed with varying riding styles and terrain types in mind. Figure out what type of riding you will be doing and make sure that the bike you select fits your unique style.
Full suspension or hard tail
If you have the budget a full suspension mountain bike is always worth the extra that you spend. A hard tail, without rear suspension, is much lighter weight and pedals more efficiently, but full suspensions bikes offer more comfort and better control overall. In the end your decision will be based around your price range, riding style, and the type of terrain you’ll be riding on the most.
Compare Components ( Get the best you can afford)
Start out with the fork then look at the wheels, brake systems and rear derailleur.Mountain biking can be a hazardous sport so be especially concerned about safety features.
Buying Off Season
Throughout the entire year, the price ranges of mountain bikes can fluctuate quite a bit. The main buying season is Spring through summer. If you are able to wait until the right price pops up, normally in the fall and winter, you can save a couple hundred dollars. The prices on line fluctuate quite a bit and you can often get a killer deal by being savvy and comparing prices.
Test rides
Test ride as many bikes as you can within your price range and riding style. Try out other riders bikes as well before you buy. You’ll find that some bikes will just feel right, while others won’t. The more bikes you can test ride, the better you’ll get to know what works and what doesn’t. The advantage of belonging to a club is that you will be able to try out a fairly large range of mountain bikes before you commit yourself.
Doing Your Research
Mountain bike reviews are the best ways to find out about a mountain bikes reliability, durability and overall performance. On line you will also be able to view a wide range of bikes in a reasonably short space of time. Remember that dealers often promote one major brand above all others. You should always look at what other owners and reviews think about a mountain bike before you make that final purchase.

Diamondback 2012 Overdrive 29′er Mountain Bike
No mountain bike review would be complete without the very popular 29er and we liked riding this impressive trail bike. The Overdrive 29er looks wonderful with its big wheels, big front shock, disk brakes and tough top quality shape. The overall packaging of the bicycle is ideal, and its easy to assemble. Before you ride be sure that every bolt is tightened. Its actually quite large as you’d expect from a 29er. This sleek black mean machine will turn heads.
We tried it on paved trails, and dirt tracks, and the handling was awesome. The bicycle is strong as a rock and has the same standard construction and components of bicycles costing twice as much. Gears are simple to change as you climb hills. The mountain bike is lighter than we would have expected, about 20 pounds and the seat became a little rough for lengthy rides. Its really huge and everything people say about 29′ers is true. Its not hard to get the hang of and once you do its really fantastic. There were a few creaks but it was only because I was trying to shift gears while going up a steep hill and the chain skipped and made a big popping sound but everything held up and it remains very sturdy. The brakes are fantastic, the front suspension recoils quite quickly, the tires have a ton of grip, and the saddle is comfortable.
Here is a short video motivation -enjoy!
Here are a few comments from another mountain bike review “I have just finished putting a 1000 miles on my Overdrive, about 300 have been on trails. Its a great entry level bike, it is built well and handles great. As you ride more you will have nothing but confidence about what the bike can handle and do. This bike does not come across as an entry level bike with 29″ wheels and dual disk brakes. You can’t go wrong with this purchase.”
“I guess I gravitated to this bike for that reason, and I’m glad I did! It’s a very cool looking bike!!!”
The mountain bike is fitted with a 29′er butted 6061-T6 aluminum Overdrive difficult tail frame plus SR Suntour XCT suspension fork with 100-millimeter travel, Sram X-4 back derailleur with X-4 8-speed trigger shifters, SL-7 double-wall rims and Tektro Novela mechanical disk brakes and comes with a lifetime guarantee on the frame and a one-year guarantee on components finish plus suspension components.
If you are looking for an entry level model ideal for riding about the neighborhood, country roads and biking trails, or riding in the park and does not cost an arm and a leg then this bike will be the best mountain bike to buy.

Schwinn Ridge AL Women’s Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels)
We really loved this women’s mountain bike! It handles very well, has a good quality frame, a smooth ride, and the price is great. When we conducted this mountain bike review we could see at once that this product was made with a lot of care as with all Schwinn products.
This bike rides great, takes the bumps well. We really liked the quick-release feature for the bike seat and front wheel. This makes it simple to adjust the height anywhere and easy to pack away in the car. The breaks work smoothly and don’t jolt you to a stop.
It is light enough and has a top class build. This mountain bike has all the features you’d want: 21-speeds (7 back, 3 in the front) quick-release brakes, wheels and seat, thumb and trigger-finger gear shifters, shimano brand quality derailleur, and a decent front shock. The brakes are excellent — as close as you’ll get to disc brakes for this price.
Equipped with an aluminium MTB frame and an SR Sun tour suspension fork, the Ridge AL is smooth and sturdy and did I mention it looks wonderful. The front and rear linear pull brakes provided sure stopping power while on the move and thanks to the 21-speed drive train and SRAM trigger shifters, it’s a breeze to shift gears regardless of the terrain. Other features include rustproof alloy rims and 1.95-inch-thick tires, 26-inch wheels, a Sun tour alloy crank, rust-resistant powder coating, and an adjustable quick-release seat.

Other Mountain Bike Reviews
“I LOVE MY BIKE! I have had this bike since 2008 and I get stopped and am given compliments on it all the time. I have been told it is a great fit. It runs great.” “Rides solidly, feels strong, and has been ridden by my sister, brothers, etc on trails following me on my Mongoose Pro Wing Elite, and the Schwinn coped more than adequately.”
“It never misses a beat, and it eats up rocks, ruts, and hills. I am happy to report that with this bike I won 2nd place in the Eco-Challenge (in the Women’s division)! Thanks Schwinn for making such an affordable tough mountain bike! I highly recommend this bike!”
This was by far the best mountain bike for women that we tested. If you’re debating on whether to pick a Schwinn up at Walmart, Target or elsewhere, get it at Amazon.com instead. We tested the Schwinn bikes at those stores and they are all a bit lower-end than this one and more expensive as well.

GMC Topkick Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike
This is a good bike and definitely right up there with the best mountain bikes in our mountain bike review. We enjoyed the dual suspension which was a huge difference from the hard tail mountain bikes that we tested.
The 21 speeds seemed a bit of overkill at first, but when we tested the mountain bike on the rolling hills in the area they were well worth having. The push button indexed shifters were a real treat and easy to learn. The rear derailleur shifted extremely smoothly with no jumps or clatters especially in the up shift. It simply changed ratio and I could feel a little extra resistance in the pedals as I gained speed. The disk brakes are a good idea because when it rained they maintained their effectiveness even when wet. I could recall rim brakes that would become almost ineffectual after riding through a large puddle.
Here is a brief dealer video presentation;
Other Mountain Bike Reviews: Here are a few entries; “This dual suspension bike is awesome! This bike has endured plenty of punishment and its held up with no problems. The dual suspension makes riding over bumps, logs, rocks easy as a ride in the park. The brakes stop on a dime. The all black look is nice n mean looking.”
“If you are on a budget and want great value, this is the ticket. Great looks, dual rotor brakes and smooth gear changes are what you’re paying for; you can’t find a better deal with all of these features. This bike also handles well at speed and feels confident even at 30 mph downhill.”
Boasting full-suspension and an extra-strong aluminium frame, the GMC Top kick mountain bike is an ideal choice for riding trails and for general city trips. The frame employs a floating beam suspension design mated to a Zoom suspension fork with elastomer/spring technology which gives the bike a smooth, steady performance even on rough tracks.
True to its GMC roots, the Top kick mountain bike is rugged, looks great and is built with quality materials for the long haul. The Top kick boasts front and rear Pro max disc brakes to keep you stopping smoothly in any circumstance. Disc brakes are vastly superior to rim brakes, especially under adverse road conditions.
At our mountain bike review we rated this among the best mid level mountain bikes and recommended for to anyone looking for a good quality, dual suspension mountain bike at a very affordable price.

The Sport Of Mountain Biking
Mountain bikes share characteristics with other bikes, but incorporate features geared to maximize durability and performance in rough terrain. The sport requires core endurance ,balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance.
Mountain biking may be performed virtually anywhere from a back yard to a gravel track, but the majority of mountain bikers ride off road mountain bike trails, including country back roads, fire roads, or single-track. Nothing quite beats riding the narrow trails that wind through forested acres, hills, deserts, or fields.
Risk of being injured is an inherent factor in the sport of mountain biking, especially in the more radical disciplines such as downhill biking. Accidental injuries range from relatively minor wounds, such as cuts and abrasions from falls on gravel to serious injuries for example striking the head or spine on a boulder or tree. To essentially lessen the danger of injury,
A rider needs to take steps to render injuries less likely, such as selecting trails which they can handle given their experience level, being sure that that they are fit enough to deal with the trail they have selected, and keeping their bike in excellent mechanical shape. A cross-country helmet and simple long fingered gloves are a good minimum for the majority of riding. Almost all riders will carry a backpack, including a water bladder, containing all the essential tools and equipment for trail side repairs, and many riders also carry emergency supplies in the case of injury miles from outside assistance. Club rides and other forms of group tours are common, especially on more lengthy journeys.
Purchasing a mountain bike does not have to be a difficult chore. If you want to end up with a top quality bike keeping specific features in mind is a good idea. Deciding the features such as the suspension, whether dual or single, the type of steel and the kind of frame, whether carbon fiber or titanium, the type of brakes whether disc or rim can help you set your criteria for your perfect mountain bike. The advantages of owning a mountain bike, far outweigh the problems of attaining one. Create a budget for the bike and stick to it. Quality products mean a little more expense but result in a good and sensible investment.
Traction is extremely important component to attend to while buying your new mountain bike. Traction helps to generate the grip between the bike and the course surface. Therefore if you plan to ride on difficult trails you should ensure that the traction of the bike is adaptable to such kind of of trails. Tires also have treads and prominent treads allow better traction and thus result in better grip of the tire with the surface.
When it comes to hard tail or full suspension, full suspension is the best bet if you have the cash to spend. Off-road cycling includes traversing of rocks and washouts, and steep declines, on dirt trails, logging roads, and other unpaved environments-activities so your bike needs to be able to withstand the stresses of off-road. Wheels used on mountain bikes are wide with, knobby tires for and shock absorption and good traction on uneven terrain
Many new mountain bikes integrate a “full suspension” design known as Dual Suspension or “full-susser”, meaning that both the front and rear wheel are fitted with a shock absorber in some form as the wheel attaches to the bike. This provides a smoother ride as the front and rear wheels can now travel up and down to absorb the force of obstacles striking the tires.
Mountain bikes come in a variety of terrain types and riding styles, it is important that you choose one that works well with what you be doing on the bike the most. Some different riding styles include cross country racing, smooth riding, lift access downhill, and mountain cruising. The mountain bike you purchase should fit in with your own likes and personality not that of the sales staff in the store that you purchase it from. I suggest that you talk to your biker buddies or club members and get on as many bikes as possible before you buy. Do not go for mass merchants like Wal-Mart.
The better deals can be found on line once you know exactly what you are looking for. Look for mountain bike reviews and compare prices before you order. Don’t forgot even if you are not going to ride mountain bike trails and are just as happy down the neighborhood skate park you are still having a lot of fun and at the end of the day that’s what is important.
